Henry Deas Boykin Anderson

Licensed Marriage and Family TherapIst

Certified sex addiction therapist candidate

Level 2 Unified Mindfulness coach

Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200)

I have earned my Master of Marriage and Family Therapy degree from Converse College and received my license to practice therapy as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) from the South Carolina Board of Examiners for Licensure of Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists and Psycho-Educational Specialists.

I am qualified to work with clients who are experiencing a variety of challenges. I make it my goal with all clients to provide them with an open, curious, and non-judgmental presence during sessions no matter what form their suffering takes. I believe that a therapist must view both his/her own authenticity and his/her client's trust as vital qualities to cultivate and maintain in order for therapy to be successful. Authenticity can only arise when a therapist is fully present and attuned. When a therapist’s authenticity is as part of therapy, trust can emerge from the resonance created in conversation.

I have been trained as a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (candidate). This has prepared me to help individuals with problematic sexual behaviors that could be considered “addiction”: meeting the same diagnostic criteria as with drug/alcohol dependence. I also work with intimate partners of sex/porn addicts who have experienced betrayal that is often damaging enough to be considered “traumatic”: displaying symptoms very similar to PTSD. I often have the chance to collaborate with a colleague at the Center for Sexual and Relational Health in as we each work with different partners of an intimate relationship that may be struggling with these or similar sexual/relational problems.

I am a certified Level 2 Coach in the Unified Mindfulness system of meditation. This is a system developed by the American meditation teacher, Shinzen Young. The system is a versatile and scientific approach to the problem of human suffering, and it provides a framework for meditation techniques that is designed to be user-friendly and applicable to all walks of life. I offer one-on-one coaching sessions and group instruction (ranging from an 8-week training course to stand-alone group coaching sessions).

I also have been trained as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) through the Yoga and Ayurveda Center. I offer one-on-one coaching sessions for those interested in beginning a yoga practice of their own and for those who wish to expand their mindfulness practice to include more “meditation in motion”. I approach helping others explore the physical side of yoga (asanas: poses), by emphasizing the importance of bodily awareness and mindful movement/breathing. I am committed to my own personal daily meditation and yoga practices.

I am profoundly fortunate to be blessed as a husband and father of two children. My family, music, reading, and meditation are deeply important things in my life. I previously earned my Bachelor of Music Education with an emphasis on string education and classical guitar performance from the University of South Carolina. I love humor and good conversation, and I am truly interested in discovering and practicing new ways of finding joy and contentment in all moments of life
