Naked Awareness
When we practice contemplative unknowing,
we let go of all our proud concepts,
and come to rest in a more fundamental experience of being alive.
Unknowing is an exercise of utter simplicity—it involves letting go of our feelings, thoughts, and perceptions;
and a coming to rest in a naked awareness of the simple fact that we are.
It’s a project with an impossible aim:
to become while coming apart at the seams —
to rest in sweet assurance while drowning.
“SEE THIS!” and “REMEMBER ALWAYS!”:
the commands of our deepest wisdom,
constantly hidden and forgotten.
